SANGIS, Ann (nee Vaspol), age 97, a lifelong resident of Garfield, died on July 6, 2014. She was a seamstress for SuperCraft, Garfield, and a parishioner of Most Holy Name Church. She was the Co-founder and Executive Director with her husband Sam, establishing the Garfield Girls Club on December 9, 1977. Mrs. Sangis, retired, and donated the building to the City of Garfield twenty one years ago, creating The Sam and Ann Sangis Garfield Recreation Center. She was also on the board of directors of the Garfield Boys Club, a member of the Kiwanis Club, AARP, and Golden Agers, all of Garfield. She also sponsored, with her family The Sam Sangis Memorial Scholarship which is awarded to a high school student from Garfield attending college.
Loving mother of Susan Fisher. She is predeceased by her first husband Adam “Al” Fisher, her second husband, Sam Sangis, five brothers, Michael, Joseph, Frank, Silvio, and Salvatore Vaspol, and four sisters, Jean Salvada, Josephine Gellis, Mary Patlen, and Lena Glorioso. Visiting Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral is Wednesday, July 9, 2014, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 10:30 am followed by a 11:30 am mass at Most Holy Name Church, Garfield. Interment St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi. The Sangis family is in the care of the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield (973-340-7077). Condolences/Directions visit aloiafuneral.com
