MARIA de los SANTOS FLORES de BRITO, 86, of Lodi, New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014 in Fair Lawn, New Jersey.
Born on November 1, 1927 in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Maria is the daughter of Manuel Issac Flores and Mercedes Obdulia Lavayen de Flores. She married in 1950 and raised five children. In 1973, she moved to New York City, New York, and in 1983 moved to Lodi, New Jersey. She graduated from both the University of the State of New York and Borough of Manhattan Community College, earning a degree in Secretarial Sciences in 1984. She was last employed at Englewood Hospital as a secretary.
Maria was devoted to her family, friends and community, spreading the word of God, love, and spiritual and emotional healing to all those in need. She served God and was an active leader with the congregation of The Fountain of Salvation Christian Church of Jersey City, New Jersey.
She is preceded by her brothers and sister, Francisco Flores, Manuel Isaac Flores, Jr. and Celeste Flores. She is also preceded by her loving daughter Virginia de Fatima Brito, and by her granddaughter Jennifer Rachel Lopez.
Maria is survived by her brothers and sister, Maria Luisa Flores, Flavio Flores, Alberto Flores, and her children: Cruz Maria Brito de Alvarado (Jorge); Jenny Brito Garcia (Miguel); Jose Luis Brito (Marise); Luis Augusto Brito, Jr. (Laura); and their father Luis A. Brito, Sr.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jorge Enrique Alvarado, Jr. (Maria Pilar); Marcos Luis Alvarado (Milda); Jose Luis Alvarado; Diana Alvarado Cardona (Victor); Tracey Garcia; Michelle Gracia Rosa (Jose); Karina Lopez Gracia (Alex); Janine Lopez; Daniel Lopez (Violeta); Christopher Lopez (Courtney); Stephanie Brito Plata (Jason); and Joseph Luis Brito.
Maria is further survived by her great grandchildren: Brittany Taylor Alvarado; Megan Yvette Alvarado; Elijah Manuel Alvarado; Victor Cardona, Jr.; Sofia Isabel Cardona; Alex Garcia; Jace Garcia; Alexa Garcia; Isabella Lopez; Mia Kaylee Lopez; Mikaylee Lopez and Nathaniel Plata
We are comforted to know that Maria, Mami, Abuelita, Bisabuela, Suegra and loyal friend, has begun her new life in the Kingdom of Heaven with our almighty Lord. Although our physical hearts ache, we carry with us all the wonderful memories of her in our hearts, and await for the day God joins us with her. We will love you always.
