Helen A. Arnold Van Wyck, age 98 ½, of Forked River, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19th at Tallwoods Care Center in Bayville, New Jersey, after a brief illness. Born in Springwater, Oregon, her family moved to Montclair, New Jersey, when she was 5 years old where her father was a minister and her parents taught violin, viola and cello for 30 years. Helen graduated from Montclair High School in 1934 and her passion was teaching piano and being an art teacher at the Yard School of Art in Montclair, New Jersey, for 18 years and also teaching art to the handicap at Kessler Institute in Orange, New Jersey, for several years. Helen is predeceased by her parents, Rev. Charles F. Aue and Alice M. Aue, siblings, Henry S. Aue and Margaret Aue Van Wyck, spouses, Frank D. Arnold and Bill Van Wyck, and son-in-law, Gary G. Polyak. She will be remembered as the loving mother to her daughter, Winifred Polyak of Forked River, her son, Richard D. Arnold and spouse Linda M. Arnold of Liberty Corner, grandmother to four grandchildren, Lisa C. Smentkowski and husband James Smentkowski, Scott Arnold, Jason Arnold, Lynne Weber and husband Patrick Weber and three great-grandchildren, Frank Smentkowski and Cassidy and Brianna Weber. Services were privately held by the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Avenue, Garfield (973-340-7077). Condolences visit aloiafuneral.com
