Obituary for Eleanor Edna Popowich (Warchol)

POPOWICH, Eleanor (nee Wachol), age 79, a lifelong resident of Garfield, died on August 11, 2016. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Ed/SPED from Felician University, her Master of Education Degree from Fairleigh Dickenson University, her second Master’s Degree from the College of New Jersey, her Supervisors Certificate from Rutgers University, and she studied Technology at the Stevens Institute of Technology. She was employed as a teacher for over 30 years with the Garfield Board of Education - School #4, she was a parishioner and past president of SS. Peter and Paul RO Cathedral in Passaic where she also taught Sunday School, was the PTA President, a member of the choir, and a Cub Scout Den Mother, and she was a member of the Republican County Committee in Garfield. She is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Donald M. in 2013. She was the loving mother of Dr. Donna Carrazzone and grandmother to P.J., Zachary, Paul, and Alexandria Natasha and great-grandson Adrian. Eleanor is also the loving mother of Dr. John Popowich and his wife Patricia and grandson John Patrick. She is predeceased by her sister, Shirley Lombardi and the dear aunt to Tracy Petty and Michael Lombardi, and beloved Godmother of Eva Moore and Nadine Drost. Visiting Sunday 1 to 3:30 pm and 5 to 8 pm with a Parastas at 7 pm. The funeral is Monday, August 15, 2016, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 9 am followed by a 10 am liturgy at SS. Peter and Paul RO Cathedral, Passaic. Interment SS. Peter and Paul RO Cemetery, Saddle Brook. Services will be officiated by Rev. Father Stephen Kaznica and cousin, Cantor Ms. Joy E. Kovalycsik. In lieu of flowers the Popowich family will be accepting donations for the Eleanor and Donald Popowich Memorial Scholarship Fund.
