SCRO, Sarah ( nee Benanti ), age 100, of Garfield, went to be with the Lord peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. She was born in New York to Salvatore and Rosa Benanti, moving to Garfield 98 years ago. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church and a member of the Rosary Society. She was a member of the Jolly Girls Club and former President of the 20th Century Ladies’ Auxiliary. Sarah was a talented seamstress having started sewing at the age of 16. She was a member of the International Ladies’ Garment Worker’s Union. Sarah loved her 100 years of life. She was vibrant, generous, and strong. She lived a life of grace devoted to the Lord. She loved a good joke and always had a witty response. Her happiest of times were when she had a home filled with her friends and family. She was known to throw together meals at a moment’s notice and always welcomed company. She was famous for saying, “You just got here,” when it was time for guests to leave. Sarah was the matriarch of a tight-knit family. She was loved and adored by all who knew her. Sarah is predeceased by her husband, Sylvester “Cy “ Scro (1973), and her son, Detective Sal Scro (1969). Also gone to be with the Lord are her parents Rosa and Salvatore Benanti, and her brothers: Henry, Charles, and Anthony Benanti. She is survived by her devoted children,her son, retired Detective Richard Scro, and her daughter, Rosalyn Patire and her husband Alan. She was cherished by her loving family: Bennie Ann Runo, Dorothy Scro, Leane and Lauren Surma; her 8 granddaughters: Sherry (Danny), Debbie (Ken), Donna (John), Karen (Joey), Kimberly (Evan), Sara Lynn (Jim), Kaitlyn (Michael), and Lauren; her great-grandchildren: Joshua, Jessica, Jacob, Paige, Kyle, Emma, Sarah, Claire, Vincent, Carlos, Faith, Olivia, Ella, John, and Jack; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visiting Thursday, from3 to 8pm at the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield (973-340-7077). The funeral is Friday, September 2, 2016, arriving at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church at 10am followed by a 10:30 am mass. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Saddle Brook.
