Judith Ann "Judy"  Messineo
MESSINEO, Judith Ann “Judy”, age 68, of Vernon, died on March 5, 2017. Born in Passaic, she resided in Elmwood Park for 10 years before moving to Ridgewood, and eventually settled in Vernon 12 years ago. Judy was a 1966 graduate of Ridgewood High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. After college, she started her career as a travel agent owning Bergen Travel in Garfield since 1972. She was a Garfield Rotarian for 30 years, earning the distinction of being the club’s first female member and President. She faithfully volunteered over the years as President, Vice-President, and Secretary, was a host for the Rotary Gift of Life Program, and participated in community events such as National Night Out, delivery of Thanksgiving meals, Rotary Youth Leadership Award Program, high school scholarship committee and career day. In her work for Rotary, she was awarded as a Gift of Life Humanitarian, Walter D. Head Award Recipient, and a Paul Harris Fellow. She also was active on the district level with Rotary District 7490, and currently was the Assistant Secretary to the District Governor. She served on the Military Family Assistance Center Committee, was the chairperson for the District’s President’s Ball several times, was a Past Trustee of the Walter D. Head Foundation and member of the Golf Outing Committee, served several terms as an Assistant Governor, was Past Chairperson of the Walter D. Head Foundation Scholarship Committee, and was the travel coordinator for district conferences. She was also a member of the Garfield Chamber of Commerce, serving as Secretary, and was on the Business Expo Committee, Christmas Party Committee and Halloween Haunted House Committee. In addition, she was a member of the Garfield YMCA 75th Anniversary Committee. She is survived by her loving children, Sabrina Rahman and Tariq J. Messineo, Esq. and wife Lisa, husband, Harry C. Gundling, two grandchildren, Jay and Dominic Messineo, and a brother, Arthur J. Messineo, Jr. She is predeceased by her parents, Lucia and Arthur J. Messineo, Sr., and her brother, William M. Messineo, Esq. Her vibrant, independent spirit and warm smile will be deeply missed. Memorial Visitation will be from 1 to 5 on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the Aloia Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations for the Garfield Rotary Club (c/o Garfield YMCA, 33 Outwater Lane, Garfield, NJ 07026), the Walter D. Head Foundation and the Rotary District 7490 Military Family Assistance Centre (P.O. Box 4183, New Bridge Landing, River Edge, NJ 07661).
