Obituary for Virginia Caratenuto (Tirri)

CARATENUTO, Virginia (nee Tirri), age 98, of Garfield, died on April 12, 2017. Born in Paterson, she lived there for 34 years settling in Garfield 64 years ago. She was a manual check clerk 13 years for Vornado in Garfield retiring in 1982. Virginia was very active parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Virgin in Garfield belonging to the Rosary Society, the Sacred Heart Society, past president of the TAMS, a 4th grade Sunday School Teacher, and an Eucharistic Minister. Virginia was honored by the church in April of 1999 as the "Steward of the Month", and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the pastor and the Garfield Mayor’s Award. She is predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Joseph P. in 2013, her parents, Joseph and Antoinette Tirri, and her brother, Dominic Tirri. Loving mother of Joseph and wife Stephanie, Victor and wife Jeanne, and Judith Caratenuto, cherished grandmother of Joseph Andrew and wife Megan, Christina, Katherine, and Andrew, and dear great-grandmother of Jack and Henry. Visiting is Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral is Tuesday, April 18, 2017, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 8:30 am followed by a 9:30 am mass at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, Garfield. Entombment Calvary Cemetery, Paterson. The family is accepting donations for Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church Maintenance Fund.
