Obituary for Edward Fedush

Edward  Fedush
FEDUSH, Edward, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2017 at Hackensack University Medical Center surrounded by his family and loved ones. A lifelong Garfield resident, Ed had been blind since birth. He graduated from Garfield High School and was selected as "Most Talented" in his graduating high school class. He began playing the piano when he was 8 years old and worked as an entertainer in local clubs and restaurants and did shows. He also worked for the State of New Jersey in the Department of Human Services for 30 years retiring in 1991.

Ed was on the Bergen County Transportation Advisory Board. He served as Organist for the Paterson Elks Lodge #60 where he was a Life Member. He has been a member of the Hackensack Lions Club for over 50 years where he has served as the Club's President, Zone Chairperson, Region Chairperson, White Cane Chairperson. The last 20 years until recently, Lion Ed served as the District Chairperson for the N.J. Blind Athletes Association. Ed was also a Charter Member of District 16-A Past Cabinet Officers' Association serving as Past President and Secretary, and was a member of the American Council of the Blind having served as First Vice-President, President and Secretary. As a representative for this organization, Ed went to Washington D.C. and spoke to Congressmen concerning the institution of legislation allowing mail to be sent as Free Matter for the Blind and Handicapped. Ed was also a member of the New Jersey Blind Citizens' Association and served on their Board of Directors from 1985-2002. Ed had been a member of the New Jersey Council of the Blind for over 60 Years.

Mr. Fedush is survived by his niece, Karen Torcivia, her husband Anthony, his nephew, Michael Vatasin II, niece, Denise Shabet, four great-nephews, and his devoted friend, Elise Shabet.

Visiting Thursday 4 to 8 pm with the Parastas at 7 pm. The funeral is Friday, April 21, 2017, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 8:30 am followed by a 10 am mass at St. John the Baptist RO Church, Passaic. Interment East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. In Lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Morristown Seeing Eye, P.O. Box 375, Morristown NJ 07963.
