Obituary for Elizabeth "Mimi" Gray (Adamo)

Elizabeth "Mimi"  Gray (Adamo)
GRAY, Elizabeth “Mimi”, age 73, of Garfield, died on July 5, 2017. Born in Passaic, she lived in Passaic, Lodi and Garfield. Elizabeth was a Social Studies teacher for 17 years with the Garfield Board of Education retiring in 2012, and an adjunct professor of Sociology and Women’s Studies at William Paterson University, Felician University, Kean University, Bergen County Community College and Passaic County Community College. She was a parishioner of Mt. Virgin Church in Garfield, as well as a very active member in her community. Amongst her many accomplishments and achievements, Liz was currently serving her second term as a Garfield Board of Education Trustee for the past four years, she was the City of Garfield Historian and a member of the Garfield Historical Society for 26 years, former chairperson of the Bergen County Democratic Committee in Garfield, Vice President of the Bergen County Central Trades and Labor Council, Vice President of the American Federation of Teachers of New Jersey, and a member and COPE Chairperson of the Garfield Federation of Teachers. In addition, she was a member of UNICO, The Women’s Club, and the Chamber of Commerce, all of Garfield. She was honored in 2016 at the Freddie Porter Scholarship Dinner with the Woman of the Year Award, and she was inducted into the Bergen County Democratic Committee Hall of Fame. Elizabeth served as a legislative aide for NJ Assemblyman Richard Visotcky, Senator Gabe Ambrosio, and Senator Paul Sarlo. She is predeceased by her husband, Martin Gray in 1998, her parents, Anna ‘Mazee” Mc Cabe and Anthony Adamo, and her sister, Rose Martin. Loving mother of David R. and Martin A. and wife Lois A., cherished grandmother of Cassidy Gray, Jesse Gray, and William Paese (Lindsay), adored great-grandmother of Bradley and Berkeley Paese, and dear sister of Patricia Figueroa. She also leaves behind Belle, her beloved German Shepherd. The Memorial Mass will be 12 pm on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Our Lady of Mount Virgin RC Church, Garfield. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The Gray family is in the care of the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield (973-340-7077).
