Obituary for Richard Paul Rusin

Richard Paul Rusin
RUSIN, Richard Paul, age 70, of Iselin, died on August 29, 2017. Rich was an Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam Conflict from 1968-1974 and he was awarded a Purple Heart Medal and a Bronze Star. He was the Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart - Local Chapter 181, New Jersey State Commander of the Military Order of the Heart from 1997-1998, and instrumental in fund raising for numerous Purple Heart monuments placed in central New Jersey. He was also a life member of the Woodbridge Elks Lodge 2116 and Avenel VFW Post 7164. During the 1980's, Rich came up with the idea to take retired US mail boxes and have them repainted to resemble American flags then placed the first one by the Woodbridge Elks for American flags to be placed in the box and then retired in a formal ceremony. This idea caught on and now many other organizations have followed suit. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Kimberlee Rusin (nee Kunzmann), dear brother of Joseph Rusin, brother-in-law of Karen Kunzmann, Gisela Rivera, Renee Grant, and Tim Grant, and uncle of Jeffrey & Scott Rusin. He also leaves behind his beloved Scottish terrier, Cosmo II, many aunts, uncles & cousins especially Bobby, Bruce & Brett Jackson. Please make a donation to any veteran organization in Rich's name if you would like. Cremation and services are private. The Rusin family is in the care of the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield (973-340-7077). Condolences visit www.aloiafuneral.com
