Gerald (Jerry) Strekal, of Medford, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018, in the presence of his family. He was born on October 24, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio to parents John and Josephine Strekal.
Jerry was passionate about his family and friends above all, but also sailing, fishing, bicycling, golfing, bowling, skiing -- all things outdoors. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and sailing on Chesapeake Bay and in the British Virgin Islands.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; daughter Heather, son-in-law Danny and the light of his life, his grandson Quinn; brother, sister-in-law and nephews, Tom, Liz, Teague and Edan; late cousins Gloria (nee Hunter) Conte, Kenny Hunter, and Joe Kastellic; Joe’s wife, Barbara; cousin Nancy (nee Kastellic) Scholes and her husband Ray; cousin Marie (nee Ferfolia) Stout; and the many buddies who called him “brother.”
A private ceremony is planned on the water, where Jerry loved to be. His family invites you to participate in a casual celebration at one of his favorite places, Medford Bagel Shop, 7 Jackson Road, Medford, NJ on Tuesday, August 14 from 2-4 pm. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Joseph A. Kastellic Scholarship at Western Colorado State University. The scholarship honors Jerry’s late cousin, the first Superintendent of Black Canyon National Monument (now Park) and benefits students who are majoring in Environmental Studies and Geology: https://www.western.edu/financial-aid/types-aid/common-scholarship-search.
