Obituary for Gioacchino Amato

AMATO, Gioacchino, age 75, of Lodi, died on January 8, 2017. Born in Termini Imerese, Sicily-Italy, he emigrated to the United States in 1966 settling in Lodi 50 years ago. He worked for Milan Auto Painters in Clifton, and then in environmental services at Hackensack U. Medical Center for 17 years before retiring. He was in the Italian Air Force, and he was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s RC Church, Lodi. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rita (nee Sanfratello), two children, Rosanna DiCarlo and husband Jack, and Philip Amato and wife Mary, three grandchildren, Gabriella, Matthew, and Aidan, and a sister, Benedetta “Bina” Cosentino. He is predeceased by his brothers, Riccardo and Francesco Amato, a sister, Antonia Scro, and his parents, Filippo and Rosalia Amato. Visiting Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral is Thursday, January 12, 2017, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 9:30 am followed by a 10:30 am mass at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Lodi. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook. In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations to the Adorno Fathers Mission, Ramsey. The Amato family is in the care of the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield (973-340-7077).
