Gerald Shortino
SHORTINO, Gerald, age 77, of Lodi, died on May 31, 2018. Born and raised in Passaic for 21 years, he moved to Lodi 56 years ago when he married Rita raising their family there. Jerry was a carpenter and cabinet maker until 1994, and then he worked as an electrician for 10 years with Shortino and Sons, East Stroudsburg, PA, retiring in 2005. Jerry was a parishioner of Mt. Virgin Church, Garfield where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Ushers Society, Parish Life Committee and the Feast Committee. He faithfully served on the Lodi Fire Department, Fire Company 1 for 40 years in various capacities, most notably as a former Captain and a driver for many years, and was a member of the NJ Exempt Firemen’s Association. He loved to hunt and fish with his sons and spend time with his grandchildren and family. His motto was, “Family comes first!” Jerry always wanted to be in on the “joke” and loved to go out as long as he didn’t have to drive. The man lovingly called “Pop” will be greatly missed. He is with the love of his life Rita, and we were better to have known him. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 43 years, Rita (nee Serpone) in 2005, his parents, Angelo and Josephine Shortino, and his siblings, Joseph Shortino and Lucy Mancuso. He is survived by two loving sons, John and wife Debra, and Jerry A. and wife Jennifer, four cherished grandchildren, John, Jr. (Allison), Nicholas (Melissa), Emily, and Sarah, and an adored great-granddaughter, Scarlett. Visiting Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral is Monday, June 4, 2018, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 9 am followed by a 10 am mass at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, Garfield.
