Obituary for Joseph Lipari

LIPARI, Joseph, age 82, of Garfield, died on January 30, 2019. Born and raised in Passaic for 66 years, he settled in Garfield 16 years ago. Joseph was the former Mayor of Passaic from 1983 to 1993, a two-term councilman and council president from 1982-1983. Mayor Lipari received many honors, including 1976 Citizen of the Year, 1987 Peruvian Man of the Year, 1982 Man of the Year Award from the Passaic Senior Citizens, 1987 Hungarian Award for putting up the Hungarian Statue, B’Nai B’rith Foundation Award, 1976 Senior Citizens Award, DeMuro Senior Citizen in 1978, 1989 Youth of the City of Passaic Award, 1985 Great Guy Award from the Citizens of Passaic, 1985 Citizen Award from the Peruvian Community, 1985 Department of Justice Award from the Personal Law Enforcement Effort, 1987 Veterans Alliance Award, 1983 Passaic Cultural Award from the Children, 1984 Brotherhood Award from the B’Nai B’rith, and Hispanic Clergy of Passaic Award in 1989. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Passaic, a member of the Passaic UNICO, and a supporter of the Boys Town of Italy. Mr. Lipari was a multi talented entrepreneur and philanthropist, and a butcher by trade. He owned and operated King Veal Company, The Golden Coin Restaurant, Joseph’s Prime Meats, Forest Distributors, Something’s Fishy, Top Grade Sausage, Lipari’s Sausage, Inc., The Domino Club, and The Cue Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Anne (nee Hegedus), four dear children, Joseph Lipari, Anne Neggia and husband Joseph, James Lipari, and Marilynn Manganella and husband Joseph, two step-children, Adam Osuch and Kimberly Osuch, eight cherished grandchildren, Gianna Lipari, Joseph Manganella, Gelina Lipari, Justina Lipari, Joseph Neggia, Anne Marie Neggia, Michael Manganella, and Santino Manganella, two siblings, Jack Lipari (Rosemary) and Josephine Lipari-DelGaizo (Dominick), and his dog, Bently. He is predeceased by his siblings, Michael and Leonard Candello, Angelo, Jack, and Jennie Lipari, and Mary Divirgilio. Visiting Monday 3 to 8 pm. Entombment Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah. The funeral is Tuesday, February 5, 2019, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 8 am followed by a 9 am mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Passaic.
