Obituary

PERINI, Diane (nee Merkel), age 66, of Saddle Brook, died on February 1, 2020. She was born in Passaic, living in Lodi for 16 years, settling in Saddle Brook 50 years ago. Diane was a deli clerk 4 years at A & P in Saddle Brook before becoming ill and she was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle RC Church in Saddle Brook. She is predeceased by her son, Massimo in 1985 and her father, Edward Merkel in 1984. Diane is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Massimo (Max), her mother, Audrey Merkel, two beloved children, Melissa McManus and husband Chris and Joseph and fiance Jennifer Santillo, five cherished grandchildren, Alexa, Kayla, Zachary, Skylar, and Savannah, and two dear siblings, Richard Merkel and wife Lois, and Karen Cosentino and husband Bill. Diane was a very talented loving Mother and Nonna who enjoyed crocheting and making beautiful book folds. Although she has been very sick for the past 41 years with asthma and diabetes, no matter how sick she felt she always put her family first. She was very involved in her grandchildren’s life. She never missed a bowling match, karate test, or dance recital no matter how sick she was. Visiting Tuesday 7 to 9 pm. with an 8:30 pm. chapel service. Private Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers the family will accept memorial gifts. The Perini family is in the care of the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield (973-340-7077). Since I was 4 years old you were my second Mommy. You probably cooked me breakfast, lunch, and dinner just as often as my own mom did since when I wasn't sleeping at my house I was generally sleeping at yours. Even as Melissa and I grew up and had families of our own and I moved out of state you still kept tabs on me. You probably know more about me than even I do lol. We're all going to miss you so much Mommy. I love you. Love, Jess
