Obituary for Michael Francis Durning

Michael Francis Edward Durning, 52, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 13, 2020 after making tremendous strides recovering from a terrible incident last May. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Constance Durning. Michael leaves behind his beloved children, Alexandra, Timothy and Carina, Alexandra’s fiancé Sal and their son Kenneth (Michael’s grandson). He is also survived by his siblings, Anthony, Patrick, Maria, a host of other family, as well as his former wife, Michelle.

Michael loved spending time with his family. He could often be found watching Saturday morning cartoons or sci-fi movies with his son and grandson, pumpkin carving, engaging in a good joke (“Dad” jokes were his specialty) or offering his best sarcastic comment, hosting barbecues and cooking his “famous dishes” for people, enjoying winter time, sitting on the porch during a thunderstorm, collecting comics and superhero memorabilia, playing a classic video game, playing along to game shows, winning a prize on a crane machine or enjoying almost anything Scottish-besides haggis. He loved movies and some of his favorites were The Princess Bride and the Star Wars series. He loved cats and would have been surrounded by them if given the choice. He was an avid NY Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and NY Mets Fan. In the workforce, Michael wore many hats, but his favorites were NJ Transit Train Conductor and tanker driver. He was the guy that would help you move and, way before uber, he was your ride to and from the airport, no matter the time of day. Though Michael was not a rich man, he would give you the shirt off of his back. His smile, sarcasm, supportive nature, contagious laugh and presence will be genuinely missed.

Due to the unfortunate situation that we are experiencing in the world and the current limitations on gatherings, we will not be able to have a service for Michael at this time. We will have a celebration of Michael’s life when things get back to normal. We will announce it here and via Facebook. We hope that you will join us.
