Obituary for Florence M. Blanchfield (Ouellette)

A lifetime of creating beauty from fabric comes to a close.

Florence “Flo” Blanchfield passed from this life on April 1, 2020. A resident of Regency Gardens Nursing Home in Wayne, Flo lived in New Jersey all of her adult life.

Born Florence Ouellette “Willette”, April 21, 1922, in Gorham, NH, she boarded a bus bound for New Jersey at the age of 19. While living at the “Y” in Paterson and working at Bendix, making parts for the War effort, Flo met and married Eugene “Gene” Blanchfield. Together they raised a family with 5 children.

Flo began her love of design in early childhood, making doll clothes, that soon transitioned to designing and creating clothes for every age. Her pride and joy would always be the many fabulous wedding gowns she would create, bringing to life the imaginations of the bride to be. Her expertise with fabric didn’t end there, Draperies, upholstery, tailoring, her hands wielding scissors like a warrior. With needle, thread and a singer sewing machine, mere fabric became a masterpiece.

The third of eight children and marrying into an even larger clan, Flo loved a party! Holding court at dinner parties or singing off key on-stage for a comedy fund-raiser, her humor and laughter are memories not to be forgotten.

Predeceased by her husband Gene Blanchfield and many family members. Survived by children John Blanchfield, Jo Mc Lachlan, Joyce Estey, Jim Blanchfield, Jerry Blanchfield, and their respective spouses, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Siblings Madeleine McCarthy and Bro.Alfred George Ouellette. In-laws John and Joan Blanchfield as well as a myriad of nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held this summer. Family and friends will be welcome to attend (Covid-19 will not)
