Obituary for Lorrain Kenneg DeGuzman

Lorrain Kenneg DeGuzman, born on January 23, 1967, joined the ancestors on April 8, 2021 at her home in Hackensack, NJ. She was surrounded by family and friends locally, as well as a virtual global network including places as far away as California; Vancouver, Canada; Munich, Germany; and a number of locales in the Philippines.
Born in Zamboanga City, Philippines, Lorrain immigrated to the United States in 1990 to pursue her nursing career. Her tenure in the profession spanned decades and she rose through the ranks to become a Head Nurse at the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.
Her network of fellow health care professionals and kababayan (fellow Filipino expatriates) provided support and camaraderie, including eventually an introduction to the man who would be her husband. She met Edwin DeGuzman in 1995 and after a civil ceremony in the United States, the couple married at San Agustin Church in Manila’s Intramuros district in July 2003.
She lived with ovarian cancer and complications for four years- but in the end, passed away quietly in her sleep on the 19th anniversary of her civil marriage. She is survived by her husband, Edwin DeGuzman; her sister Lalaine with her husband Vicente and children Jeremy, Aaron, and Trisha; her sister Lenibelle; her parents-in-law Perfecto and Constance of Paramus, NJ; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Roland and Jeanette DeGuzman with their two sons Jackson and Joseph in Conshohocken, PA; and her brother-in-law Ben DeGuzman in Washington, DC. She is predeceased by her mother Surayda Kenneg.
Lorrain was a loving daughter, niece, sister, wife, cousin, aunt, and “ninang” (godmother). As a health professional and a healer, she was a consummate professional who served with passion and compassion. Her kindness and selfless service were unmatched. Her memory will continue to live on in our hearts until we meet again.
The DeGuzman family is in the care of the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Avenue, Garfield, NJ (973-340-7077). Condolences visit aloiafuneral.com
