Obituary for Juana Figueroa (Silva)
FIGUEROA, Juana “Tani” (nee Silva), age 53, of Haledon, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2021 with her loving friends and family at her side in the comfort of her own home. She had shared 53 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and amazing moments with those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Juana was born on April 23, 1968 to Juana Rosa Melgar and José Félix Silva Sr. in Lima, Peru. After graduating from Passaic County Community College in 2003 with a degree in human services, she pursued a career in education. Juana worked as an instructional assistant for the Paterson Board of Education for over sixteen years.
Besides teaching, she very much enjoyed interior design, music, and arts and crafts. Her deep-seated empathy for her family, friends, and students continued to persevere, even as she fought for her own life. Juana adored her beautiful daughter, Tania Ivonne Figueroa, and her biggest love, her furbaby, Pinky.
Her big smile and thoughtful personality left a deep impression on those whose paths crossed with hers, in every stage of her journey. Juana’s strength and grace throughout her 3-year battle was truly an inspiration and a testament to her love of life.
Juana leaves her parents, Rosa and José, her brother, José Fernando Silva Jr. of Arizona, her daughters, Tania and Pinky, and a host of family and friends to cherish her love and to always keep her memory and legacy alive.
Juana’s Memorial Service will be held at the Seminary Baptist Church at 193 Haledon Avenue, Paterson, NJ 07522 on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
