Obituary for Giovanni "Natale" Scolaro

SCOLARO, Giovanni “Natale,” age 92, of Elmwood Park, New Jersey died on January 4, 2022 peacefully at home. Natale was born and raised in Pozzallo, Sicily and emigrated to the US at the age of 19 years. He served in the US Army and later in 1963 founded Balsco Corrugated Box Company in Garfield and then East Rutherford which continues today under the direction of his son, Vincent Scolaro. He was a parishioner of St. Leo’s RC Church, Elmwood Park, and former member of Societa Cittadini di Pozzallo in Brooklyn and the Italian American Forum of Lodi. Natale was a generous, loving patriarch, who with his wife celebrated life and opened his home, creating a legacy of strong family bonds and a large adoring community of friends. He will be sorely missed by dear ones in Sicily and the US. He is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Maria “Mary” Bellaera in 2017, and his siblings, Gaspare and Virgilio. He is survived by six devoted children, Dr. Rosemarie Moser (Dr. Robert Moser), Frank Scolaro (Vincie), Vincent Scolaro, Esq. (Maryann), Giovanni Scolaro, Jr. (Sonia), Peter Scolaro, and Marie Scolaro, cherished grandfather of 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and brother, Giovanni Scolaro. Visiting will be Friday 5 to 8 pm. The family requests that you wear a mask and maintain safe protocols. The funeral is Saturday, January 8, 2022, beginning at the Aloia Funeral Home at 8:30 am followed by a 10 am mass at St. Francis of Assisi RC Church, Hackensack.
