Obituary for Giovanni "John" Scolaro

SCOLARO, Giovanni “John”, age 87, of Elmwood Park, died on December 27, 2022. Born and raised in Pozzallo, Sicily-Italy for 16 years, he emigrated to the United States living in Brooklyn and Hackensack settling in Elmwood Park 58 years ago. He proudly served in the US Army and spent his entire career as a self-employed carpenter before retiring. He was a parishioner of St. Leo’s RC Church, Elmwood Park, lived for family vacations to Italy, loved family dinners and gatherings, loved going for swims and walks on Pozzallo’s beaches, and painting his home country and landscapes. Giovanni is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Margherita (nee Baglieri), three loving children, Rosalba Scolaro Daniele, Richard Scolaro, and Diana Scolaro Cantone and husband Frank, and four cherished grandchildren, Marco, Alessia, Vincent, and Richie. He was a loving brother-in-law and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Giovanni Natale, Virgilio, and Gasperino Scolaro. Visiting Thursday 4 to 8 pm. The funeral is Friday, December 30, 2022, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 8:30 am followed by a 9:30 am mass at St. Leo’s RC Church, Elmwood Park. Private cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Alzheimer's Association, and Veterans Affairs, East Orange in name of John Scolaro.
