Condolence: 1996 we met Rose the first time in NYC. Till 2008 we visited her nearly every two years and each time she surprised us with a new hairstyle. But her humanity and creativity and her friendly, humorous and warmhearted character were always the same. She introduced us not only to the lifestyle especially of the East Village but also made us feel comfortable and at home there. Her responsibility for the society was for her everyday life and became manifest in sentences like: "Democracy needs time”. Only three weeks ago we had a telephone conversation and arranged to meet her this autumn again. It is hard to believe, that she won’t be there. But her inspiring view of life will be with us for the rest of our life. Thank you so much!

Condolence: I miss you Rose. I still think that you're in your apartment, working on something, going through stacks of papers, writing emails, on the phone, and so on. The past few days after you passed when I had to go to your apartment, just as I was every week, I imagined that you will be there, welcoming me with a big hug and smile like you always do. I will always carry this image with me.

Condolence: Rose. I am most definitely not alone in the lives touched by you. Your light shone so bright, and your spirit was alive like no one I have ever met. I am forever a different person, a brighter person, a more alive person, a more present person because of you. For whatever reason our paths crossed, I am grateful, humbled and thankful. Thank you, for you. Thank you, for you. I am forever humbled by what you taught me. You are alive in my heart, truly alive in my heart. I miss you.

Condolence: I will greatly miss Rose. Our families were once very close...Charles and I are only about a year apart in age, and when our families lived in the same building @ 469 Washington Ave., in Clinton Hills Brooklyn, my mother and Rose were dear friends. We spent many good times together as families and Rose was like an Aunt to me. Beach, picnic, family, parties for all of the young children's birthdays (me, Charles, others in the building, and cousins) were the norm. I spent many days at Rose's home on E 6th when our families moved from Brooklyn, and she took care of Charles and me, as young teenagers, with sincere care and love. I introduced my own teenage daughter to Rose about three/four years ago as she was waning in health and she accepted her with love, just as she did for so many of us. My last visit was to bring some incredible Jamaican Fish Tacos to her for a snack, from the pattie shop on First Ave and 4th st. Peace Be Upon You Rose...your spirit will linger with us like the fragrance of freshly culled flowers. God Bless you.

Condolence From: Charles Edward Washington
Condolence: My name is Charles Edward Washington. I moved to NYC on 10.15.1995. I called a wrong number and got a call back from a very lively and sweet sounding lady. This was 2 days after moving to NYC. That lady was, Rose Edwards. I am WHO I am today because of Rose. She taught me and showed me so much about life and love and healing thyself. Smiles and laughter, along with tears are coming across my face when I think of all the crazy and wonderful things we shared. My deepest, deepest condolences to Charles and the rest of the family. I will for surely miss her immensely, but will always love her and have her in my heart. Again, my deepest condolences.
