Obituary for
Alexander Kassabian
KASSABIAN, Alexander, age 91, of Paterson, died on April 13, 2015. Alexander, of Armenian decent, was born in the early days of the soviet union where food was rationed and impending German occupation was nearing day by day. Once war broke out in the major cities, the family made there way to Austria through neighboring countries including the Ukraine. This is where Alex and his family were captured by the German military and put to work in a concentration camp with other Armenians. If it was not for an Armenian priest and the Red Cross, they would have never been released and granted amnesty in Venice, Italy. During this time, Alex grew fond of the fine arts learning opera singing along with sketching with portrait painting. During his time in Italy they took asylum from Argentina and migrated to South America where he helped his family open a business selling fabrics and textiles. Thirty years later in the 1970's, his family applied to migrate again to United States of America where they came to live in Paterson, NJ. Alexander married Makrui Tehlikian Kassabian, became a freelance textile artist and began his family. Loving father of Robert Kassabian, and dear brother of Arpine Ost. Visiting Thursday 7 to 9 pm.
